News Regarding Your Toll Tag Readers

The North Texas Toll Authority (NTTA) will be changing the Toll Tag RFID tags to a new technology. Existing toll tag readers will still work with the older RFID tags; however, they will not work with the new toll tags being currently released..

There are several options, upgrade your existing single or dual format toll tag reader, upgrade your existing single format toll tag reader to a dual format reader, or replace your existing reader. Readers manufactured prior to 2013 and some newer single format readers are not eligible for upgrade.

Upgrades are currently taking between 4 to 6 weeks. We expect this time to increase as the new tags begin to circulate more readily. The price to upgrade an eligible reader should be between $1050 to $1735 plus labor, depending on the current reader. A new dual format reader (will work with the new tags and slightly older NTTA and TXTags) is normally $6125 plus labor to change your old one. This will be the standard reader we will sell from now on.

Please contact us today for an appointment to find out if your reader is eligible for the upgrade.

Did You Know?

A Texas Security Contractor License is Required

Is your security company licensed, find out at

Texas Online Private Security (TOPS)

Did you know the Texas Private Security Laws and Regulations states that BOTH a company and the individual performing security work must be licensed through the State of Texas1. And an individual or a company may not offer to or perform work for which they are not licensed2,3.

Many credentialing/compliance companies are missing this, and many security companies take advantage of this.

Security contracting companies, like Axxess Control Services, must:
get their licenses, including individuals, owners and the company, Pass two background checks just to qualify, maintain a minimum insurance policy &. renew the company and owner licenses yearly and individual licenses every two years. We have to complete a minimum of 8 hours of continuing education before the renewals. Some individuals must complete additional education and pass state exams.

Intrusion and burglar alarm companies, an investigations company, an electronic access control device company (includes any gate system remotely programed), locksmiths, armored car company, armed courier company, and security guard companies are covered by this law and if licensed, can be found at the links above and below.

Please make sure the companies you use are licensed, to protect you and your company, your customers and properties and your equipment. Lawsuits against unlicensed companies have many difficulties and usually fall on the company and/or individual who hired them. Fines and penalties are steep for unlicensed contractors and can also be for the people/companies hiring them5.

If you become aware of a potential criminal or administrative violation of Texas Occupational Code, Chapter 1702, by a licensed or unlicensed company or individual in the Private Security industry, submit a written statement to the

 Regulatory Services Division (RSD)
